The question of whether bathing is allowed during menstruation is relevant for many women, regardless of age. On critical days, many familiar activities are prohibited - sports training, increased physical activity, procedures in the solarium. Most of the girls already know from a young age that it is impossible to swim in this period in any reservoirs. But not everyone knows what this prohibition is related to and whether it is possible to circumvent it in any way.
What is the danger of swimming during menstruation?
During the days when there are no periods, protection against the entry of pathogenic microorganisms into the uterine cavity is provided by the mucous plug. It is localized between the vagina and cervix. With the onset of menstruation, a slight expansion of the cervical canal occurs, as a result of which the cork falls apart over time and is excreted along with the blood from the body. Accordingly, after this, the uterine cavity remains unprotected, due to which harmful bacteria can easily penetrate into it.
In addition, it is worth remembering that when bacteria enter the aquatic environment, their active reproduction occurs. Bathing during menstruation, it is almost impossible to avoid such a thing as getting a certain amount of fluid into the vagina. This can lead to many problems. One of the most dangerous of them is inflammation of the inner lining of the uterus. This disease is called endometritis and needs complex treatment.
In those days when menstruation goes, there is an intensive rejection of endometrial tissues. It turns out that the uterus, devoid of a protective barrier, is a wound surface with extremely high vulnerability. That is why doctors do not advise swimming during menstruation, but there is no categorical ban on this.
In a reservoir with stagnant water, an ideal environment is provided for bacteria and harmful microorganisms. Due to the fact that the cervix is partially ajar, a certain amount of contaminated water enters the vagina, as well as into the uterine cavity. An infected organ will be a new breeding ground for bacteria, resulting in serious diseases.
Although many are aware of the possible serious consequences after bathing during menstruation, it is not always possible to refrain from this. Therefore, if, nevertheless, the girl decided to swim during critical days, she must follow some rules in order to minimize the adverse effects of water.
Can I take a bath?
A lot of women during menstruation suffer from pain in the lower abdomen, especially in the first day or two. Many take a warm bath to relieve symptoms. But there are two main reasons for not doing this.
First of all, hot water enhances blood flow. This means that the discharge after such a procedure will become more intense, which, on the contrary, will cause an even greater pain syndrome.
In addition, the purification and chlorination of running water is not thorough enough, so it cannot be considered perfectly clean. It is also worth remembering that on the skin before carrying out water procedures there are many bacteria and contaminants, they mix with water and can penetrate into the unprotected uterine cavity.
Given all of the above, it should be concluded - in those days when menstruation is in progress, it is preferable to carry out personal hygiene with a shower, preferably with not very hot water.
Can I swim in the pool?
Probably everyone knows that water in the pool is highly chlorinated, for this reason there are practically no harmful microorganisms in it.However, at the same time, such a fluid is very aggressive, therefore, it can lead to severe irritation of the inner lining of the uterus if any of its quantity enters the vagina or cervical canal. Thus, visiting the pool on critical days is undesirable, as well as the next two to three days after they run out.
Is it possible to swim in open water?
The long-awaited vacation can be quite spoiled if you can not go to the beach and swim due to the fact that menstruation has begun. But you do not need to lose heart and plan a vacation only taking into account physiological processes. Girls taking hormonal contraceptives are likely to know that you can move the start of your period. Such drugs will help delay the onset of the menstrual cycle for 7-10 days, and sometimes more. Although experts strongly do not recommend allowing a delay of more than three weeks.
Using medications, you can relax on the seashore without worrying about any special hygiene.
It is better to introduce it before you go swimming. And leaving the reservoir, immediately replace with a new one. If swimming for a long time, a woman feels uncomfortable due to the swelling of the swab, it is necessary to go ashore and clean it as soon as possible, since a humid environment is an ideal place in which pathogenic bacteria will develop. If the girl is still virgin, she should use mini tampons.
The listed rules must be observed in such a situation when swimming in the river is planned. But it must be borne in mind that it is necessary that it has fairly clean water and a fast flow.
In bodies of water where there is no current, bathing is dangerous, even if you use tampons, since they usually have a large number of harmful microorganisms.
